Peering list at IXP
An IXP is a network through which operators connect their backbones to each other, realizing part of the meshing of the Internet. Since the Internet is given by the composition of many networks, it is necessary that each portion be connected to the others..
The connection between them can be done with pinpoint circuits or through an IXP that allows, with a single circuit, to realize the interconnection of a network with, potentially, all the others already present on the IXP.

Commercial NetworksGARR offers its community a link to global internet through redundant connections with three of the main international operators, for an aggregate of 30 Gbit / sec, both in IPv4 and in IPv6.
In addition, connections are made to ISPs through links to the Internet Exchange of Milan MIX and Rome NaMeX, for an aggregate of 80 Gbit/sec, and links to the Internet Exchange of Turin TOP-IX, Florence TIX and Padua VSIX, for an aggregate of 12 Gbit/sec.

Regional and metropolitan networks
The GARR network interconnects with other networks at the local, national and international level, to facilitate data exchange between the research and education community and its partners. In addition to the usual connections with international research and education networks, it is worth mentioning several peerings with major commercial networks and with the networks managed by local public administrations such as Regions and Municipalities.

In particular, thanks to collaborations with the Metropolitan and Regional Area Networks, some dating back to the end of the nineties (with the GARR-B MAN project), it is possible to enhance cost-effectiveness and coverage for the research and education users located in a given geographical area.
To date, collaborations with MANs and RANs include:

- Lepida, the Regional Area Network of Emilia-Romagna;
- Lightnet, the Metropolitan Area Network of the University and research centres in Trieste;
- UniFInet, the MAN co-managed by the Municipality and University of Florence;

International Research Networks
GÉANTGÉANT is the European high-capacity backbone that interconnects European research and education networks with multiple connections of 100Gbps and offers advanced services to large research infrastructures and the entire scientific, education and culture community in Europe.
Officially started in September 2004, today GÉANT interconnects over 50 million users in approximately 10,000 scientific, educational and cultural institutions across the continent. Thanks to state-of-the-art technologies, over 1,000 terabytes of data are transferred every day to the GÉANT backbone.
In fact, the GÉANT network provides the high-speed connectivity required to share, access and process massive volumes of data. These data are generated by, and are essential for, diverse research and education communities in areas such as particle physics, bioinformatics, earth observation, drug discovery and art and culture.
CONNECTIONS WITH THE WORLD RESEARCHThrough the GÉANT network, GARR users are directly interconnected with the research networks of 60 countries in the world with the possibility of exchanging data and collaborating in real time from South America to the Pacific..
GARR is also an active part of international connectivity, hosting since 2004 one of the Points of Presence of the EUMEDCONNECT network at the GARR PoP in Catania.
